Bamboo Blinds
Because bamboo and woven wood shades are made from natural materials, the edges will have natural texture and unique inconsistencies. This is part of what gives bamboo and woven blinds their charm. Depending on the type of material, with its own unique characteristics, we determine which blinds to finish off with tape along the sides. Therefore, not all blinds will have side tape unless requested.
The different textures and types of bamboo, jute, reed and grass and combinations thereof, will all perform differently in certain conditions. This is not a defect in the product but contributes towards the charm of the blind. Clients must understand that this product is made from a raw plant that is picked in swamps and marshes and go through drying processes to make them usable as blinds. EVERY SINGLE BLIND AND EVERY SINGLE SLAT PERFORM DIFFERENTLY! People either like it or they don’t. Therefore, if clients do not like a rustic, mostly uneven, look please do not sell them this product. If they do not like the irregularities that are part and parcel of the product don’t sell it to them.
The natural characteristics of these products may become more pronounced in damp humid conditions.
Due to the nature of the product, a slight variation in the finished drop may occur because of expansion or shrinkage. The looser the material is woven, the more movement will occur in the product. This is quite natural.
Over a period of time the material will change colour. Lighter materials tend to become darker and the darker materials will fade with time. This discolouration will occur mainly on the outside face of the blind that is exposed to sunlight. Over a period of time fading will occur especially on the darker colours! Certain colours sooner than later.
There is NO GUARANTEE on any bamboo or related products against fading at any stage as the circumstances under which the blinds hang play a huge role in the speed of fading.
Please be aware that the amount of privacy you achieve and the amount of light transmitted can be deceiving when viewing bamboo materials. When selecting the blind for your purposes hold the sample up at a window during the daylight and up against a light at night time to simulate the effect you will achieve when the product is in the window.
The blinds are issued with a cordlock and valance (150mm in drop) which makes the product highly attractive and very effective to manoeuvre. The purpose of the valance is not to cover the rolled up blind entirely but to hide the components attached to the headrail. The longer your blind, the thicker the roll.
Caring for your Bamboo Blinds
- Please ensure that blinds are dry before rolling them up. Rolling these products up while still wet will decrease the life of the blinds. They will first go mouldy and then rot.
- When not in use during the day with the windows or doors open, we recommend the blinds are kept in the rolled up position. This is especially true at the coast to protect them against moisture and humidity.
These blinds should not be directly exposed to water. - In cases of mild mildew, immerse the entire blind in a weak solution of bleach and water. The blind then has to be placed flat, outside in full sun to dry completely. White spots may appear on the blind but will darken as the blind dries completely.
- Remember, there is no guarantee on such a natural product! This is entirely at your own risk and must be handled with care.
